Scrapbooking – How to Plan Your Layouts

Creating something to document special memories brings a lot of satisfaction. It also helps to de-stress and is a great way to strengthen family ties.

Getting creative in any activity is good for your mental health, but a creative outlet is especially important when facing tough times. Crafting releases dopamine in your brain, which gives you a boost of energy and motivation and improves self-esteem and confidence.

A scrapbook is an album filled with photos, journaling and embellishments that are created to represent a story. It is a creative outlet that encourages you to think outside the box and create something unique.

The most common formats are 12 inch (30 cm) square and 8.5 by 11 inches (A4 or US Letter). You can use a variety of paper, stickers, stamps, frames, ribbons, fabric and more to add personality to your layouts.

Planning your layout is the first step in any scrapbooking project. Start with a blank page and sketch out a few different layouts to get an idea of what will look best before starting to cut, glue and paste.

Choose quality photos that are well-lit and have clear focus. It is also a good idea to have your photos processed with a matte finish instead of a glossy one, because it minimizes fingerprint smudges when you handle the photos.

Include detail shots of children, pets or other subjects in your scrapbook. Including small items like baby hands or feet can help to draw attention to the photo and create a more complete scrapbook.
